Malaysia must safeguard its natural heritage to build a tourism industry that is both world-class and future-ready, said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
The text of his speech was read out by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof at the launch of the World Tourism Day (WTD) 2025 and the 7th World Tourism Conference (WTC) in Melaka on September 27.
“Environmental stewardship is the cornerstone of this approach”, he said.
PM Anwar outlined a strategy to prioritise high-value segments, alongside nature-based and adventure tourism, Muslim-friendly travel, medical and wellness services, educational journeys, business events and digital nomad hubs.
On tourism emissions, PM Anwar stressed that no country can achieve an industry-wide shift alone, making multilateral cooperation essential for a sustainable future.
As ASEAN Chair this year, he said Malaysia is working to deepen regional integration through more seamless travel, harmonised standards and stronger sustainability frameworks./.
