BYD, One Car Now to Invest US$50 Million in Nuevo Leon EV Taxis

BYD has launched the BYD Electric Taxi Program in Nuevo Leon, aiming to deploy 3,000 BYD Dolphin Mini electric taxis across the state and create around 1,000 direct and indirect jobs. The initiative is backed by an initial US$50 million investment from One Car Now and includes plans to install over 100 charging stations throughout Nuevo Leon. Pilot units are already in operation, with full service expected to begin in 2026 in collaboration with Uber and DiDi.

During the official presentation at BYD’s Gonzalitos facilities, executives from BYD México, One Car Now, and BYD Grupo Tec, along with state and municipal officials, outlined the project’s scope. They noted that each BYD Dolphin Mini will offer up to 400 kilometers of range per charge and include a translation system to help drivers communicate with foreign tourists during the World Cup matches hosted in Monterrey.

“This launch marks the beginning of a new era for mobility in northern Mexico,” said Ronald Galasso, General Director, BYD Grupo Tec. “It is a decisive step toward cleaner, more efficient public transport that also generates jobs and infrastructure.”

BYD México President Jorge Vallejo said the program’s goal is to make electric vehicle technology accessible to working drivers. “We are democratizing electric mobility in Mexico,” Vallejo said. “Drivers will have access to vehicles with the lowest down payments in the market, with insurance and maintenance included. That is fair, clean, and sustainable mobility.”

One Car Now Director Mairon Sandoval added that the financing model removes entry barriers for drivers. “These vehicles are not just electric cars—they are tools for thousands of families,” Sandoval said.
