Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) hosted the 6th International Energy Congress, bringing together academic, industrial, and political representatives from Mexico, the United States, Canada, and Spain to discuss sustainable energy solutions and climate change strategies.
The event, titled Redefining the Course of Energy in the Face of Climate Change, highlighted the growing interest among students in addressing sustainability challenges, including the development of bioplastics and biofuels, according to Margarita González, President of the Congress, UAM.
González emphasized UAM’s role in energy research and education, noting collaborations with congress participants on projects involving biofuels and wind energy. Partnerships with institutions such as the Mexican Oil Institute were also highlighted as part of the university’s research initiatives.
UAM’s Iztapalapa campus offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Energy Engineering, covering conventional energy sources such as oil, natural gas, hydraulic, coal, and mineral, as well as nonconventional sources including solar, wind, nuclear, and geothermal. Programs also focus on transforming these sources into secondary energy forms, such as electricity or fuels.
The first day of the congress focused on evaluating advances and proposing new collaborative projects in basic and applied research, technological development, education, and energy policy.
The 6th International Energy Congress 2025 is organized by UAM in partnership with the Mexican Academy of Energy, the Mexican Academy of Engineering, the College of Oil Engineers, and UNAM’s School of Chemical Engineering. The congress is positioned as one of the year’s most significant forums for analyzing energy policies, technological advances, and strategies shaping the sector’s future.
