Global freight forwarders unite in Vietnam to promote sustainable logistics

Over 1,000 logistics leaders from more than 100 countries gathered at the FIATA World Congress 2025 in Vietnam, rallying behind a common vision: building a green, resilient, and technology-driven global logistics industry.

Hosted by the Vietnam Logistics Business Association (VLA) under the theme “Green and Resilient Logistics,” the event spotlighted sustainability, digital transformation, and supply-chain collaboration as the cornerstones of the sector’s future.

🌍 Driving Global Commitment to Green Logistics

FIATA President Turgut Erkeskin emphasized that freight forwarders must lead the charge in reducing logistics emissions while improving global efficiency. The congress featured the announcement of:

  • A partnership with the Smart Freight Centre to provide members with tools for carbon accounting and emission reduction.
  • FIATA’s new observer status at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) — giving the federation a stronger voice in shaping global sustainability standards.

Delegates exchanged strategies for adopting eco-friendly shipping, digital freight systems, and AI-enabled logistics planning, underscoring how innovation can mitigate environmental impact without compromising efficiency.

🇻🇳 Vietnam Steps Forward as a Regional Logistics Powerhouse

As first-time host, Vietnam showcased its growing importance in global trade. The country outlined its vision to become a regional logistics hub, supported by modern ports, digital infrastructure, and a sustainability-driven supply chain ecosystem.

Vietnam’s Minister of Industry and Trade noted that partnerships forged during the congress would help the nation align its logistics roadmap with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

✈️ The Road Ahead

The 2025 FIATA Congress concluded with a unified message: sustainability is no longer optional — it’s the foundation for long-term growth, resilience, and competitiveness in global trade.

By fostering cooperation between governments, private firms, and international organizations, the freight-forwarding community aims to make green logistics the new industry standard.
