NEW DELHI — With Christmas and New Year celebrations approaching, the Delhi Police has intensified security arrangements across the national capital, placing special emphasis on border areas, major entry points, and high-footfall zones to ensure public safety and maintain law and order during the festive season.
Senior officials confirmed that additional police personnel have been deployed along Delhi’s borders with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, where vehicular movement typically increases sharply during year-end celebrations. Border checkpoints have been reinforced with barricades, verification teams, and round-the-clock monitoring to regulate inflow and prevent any untoward incidents.
Multi-Layered Security Strategy
The enhanced security plan involves a multi-tiered deployment combining local police units, traffic personnel, and quick response teams. According to officials, the measures include:
- Strengthened border checks to monitor vehicles and individuals entering the city
- Increased patrolling in sensitive and crowded areas, particularly during late-night hours
- Coordination with neighbouring states to track suspicious movements and ensure seamless intelligence sharing
- Strategic placement of barricades to manage crowd movement and prevent congestion
Special attention is being given to popular celebration hubs such as Connaught Place, India Gate, Hauz Khas, major markets, malls, and religious sites, where large gatherings are expected in the coming days.
Traffic and Crowd Management in Focus
In addition to law-and-order measures, the Delhi Police has rolled out traffic management and enforcement drives to curb violations that typically spike during festivities. These include checks against drunk driving, overspeeding, and reckless behaviour, as well as the deployment of additional traffic personnel at busy intersections and nightlife zones.
Officials said traffic advisories will be issued periodically to inform residents and visitors about road diversions, parking restrictions, and congestion-prone areas.
Ensuring Safe and Peaceful Celebrations
A senior police officer said the objective of the heightened security is not to restrict celebrations, but to ensure they remain safe, orderly, and inclusive. “We want people to enjoy the festive season, but safety remains our top priority. Preventive measures help us respond quickly and deter potential disruptions,” the officer said.
In previous years, similar security exercises involved the deployment of more than 10,000 police personnel across the capital. Authorities indicated that comparable or enhanced arrangements are in place this year, supported by surveillance inputs and field intelligence.
Public Advisory
The Delhi Police has urged citizens to cooperate with security personnel, follow traffic rules, and remain vigilant. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity and avoid overcrowded or unsafe behaviour during celebrations.
With intensified border surveillance and citywide policing, authorities aim to ensure that Delhi rings in the New Year under a secure and well-managed environment.
