How 3Degrees Provides Science-Based Climate Solutions

Climate solutions provider 3Degrees is a global leader in supporting organisations with their targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions

3Degrees is a California-based global climate solutions provider that helps organisations tackle climate change.

Since its inception in 2007, its work has been pushed forward by the need for urgent climate action.

Alongside offering environmental solutions to companies, it focuses on holding itself accountable for its climate impact.

How does 3Degrees tackle climate change?

3Degrees was named after global warming targets from the time it was founded.

The company has developed at the same time as these targets as it now buys, sells and consults on clean energy in 96 countries.

It helped to initiate some of the earliest US renewable natural gas transactions and supports more than 1,800 companies and utilities globally, including Colgate-Palmolive and Etsy.

3Degrees provides solutions based on each organisation’s sustainability goals and helps with every stage of the decarbonisation process.

Its solutions include measuring an organisation’s carbon footprint, setting credible and science-based climate targets and developing an emissions reduction roadmap.

3Degrees became a Certified B Corporation in 2012 and works to uphold its five core values:

  • Passion
  • Respect
  • Commitment
  • Integrity
  • Diversity

He is an active investor in clean energy infrastructure and companies and focuses on the company’s long-term corporate strategy and risk management.

Dan says: “I am humbled to work at 3Degrees.

3Degrees’ climate solutions

An example of 3Degrees’ work is its partnership with Alga Biosciences, which focuses on sustainable livestock practices.

The companies have launched a programme that will bring Alga Biosciences’ methane-reducing feed additive to market.

This aims to provide beef and dairy producers with an efficient solution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from livestock.

3Degrees’ solutions also focus on risk analysis and reduction which helps prepare organisations for the effects of climate change.

These effects are evident through famine, extreme weather events and water shortages, which can severely impact an organisation’s value chain if the risks are not managed effectively.

3Degrees’ commitment to carbon reduction impacts its own business operations as well as helping other organisations.

Since it was founded, the company has measured, mitigated and publicly reported its greenhouse gas emissions.

It has committed to net zero emissions by 2050 and aims to reduce its Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 90% by 2050 compared to a 2022 base year.
