London, October 13, 2025 — Moeve, one of Spain’s leading energy producers, has joined forces with Shell as the first external supplier to integrate into Avelia, Shell’s blockchain-powered platform designed to expand the global use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This strategic partnership aims to bolster the aviation sector’s decarbonization goals through innovative, traceable, and collaborative fuel sourcing mechanisms.
Accelerating the Transition to Low-Carbon Aviation
The collaboration marks a significant milestone for both companies in advancing clean aviation technology. Avelia, which uses a “book-and-claim” system, enables airlines, corporate customers, and fuel suppliers to transparently track, purchase, and allocate SAF credits. Since its launch in 2022—with partners Amex Global Business Travel and Accenture—Avelia has facilitated the use of over 41 million gallons of SAF across 17 major airports worldwide.
Moeve will contribute to this initiative by supplying SAF produced from used cooking oil at its La Rábida Energy Park in Huelva, Spain. The company has set an ambitious target to expand production to 800,000 metric tons per year by 2030, solidifying its role as a key driver in sustainable fuel innovation.
Addressing Industry-Wide Challenges
Despite mounting pressure to decarbonize air travel, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) estimates that even if global SAF output doubles in 2025 to reach 2 million tons, it will still represent less than 1% of total jet fuel consumption. Partnerships like that of Moeve and Shell are seen as critical steps toward closing this gap.
“Scaling sustainable aviation fuel is one of the most pressing challenges facing the energy sector,” said a Shell spokesperson. “By opening Avelia to strategic suppliers like Moeve, we are creating the transparency and trust needed to drive investment and accelerate adoption.”
A Collaborative Path Toward Net-Zero Flight
Through Avelia’s blockchain-based verification, customers can purchase SAF even when it is not physically available at their departure airports—ensuring verifiable emissions reductions while supporting global production scalability. Moeve’s integration not only strengthens supply chain reliability but also demonstrates how digital innovation and renewable energy can work together to achieve aviation’s net-zero goals by 2050.
“Our partnership with Shell represents more than a business milestone—it’s a joint commitment to cleaner skies,” said a Moeve executive. “We’re investing in sustainable energy solutions that meet both today’s demand and tomorrow’s environmental responsibility.”
